Storage Tips:

  • Refrigeration: Store fresh ginger root in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness and prevent it from shriveling. Place the whole, unpeeled ginger root in a plastic bag or airtight container, and store it in the vegetable crisper drawer.
  • Freezing: Freezing is a great option for preserving it. You can either freeze it whole, or peel the ginger root and cut it into smaller pieces or grate it before freezing. Place the ginger in an airtight container or freezer bag, removing as much air as possible, and store it in the freezer for up to six months.


How to Prepare and Use:

  • Peeling and Grating: To use ginger root in your recipes, first, peel the skin off using a vegetable peeler or the edge of a spoon (if the skin is thin). Then, grate the ginger using a fine grater or a microplane zester. Grated ginger adds a zesty, aromatic flavor to stir-fries, marinades, sauces, and desserts.
  • Grating Frozen Ginger: When you need to use ginger root in a recipe, take the frozen pieces from the freezer and grate them directly into your dish. Grating frozen ginger is more comfortable and helps preserve its freshness. Additionally, you can add a unique kick to your morning smoothies by grating a small amount of frozen ginger into the mix. Remember to wash your hands or use gloves after handling ginger, as its natural oils can linger on the skin.
