We’re looking for a new member of the Plentiful Wholefoods team!
We need someone who’s happy mucking in, loves chatting with our customers, and can sell based on a genuine passion for great food and ethical, eco-friendly products. You’ll be a quick learner with heaps of drive and confidence, able to use your own initiative, spot what needs doing, and help us increase sales and keep the shop looking its absolute best.
Retail or plenty of customer-facing experience is important, but just as important is being a real people person who enjoys getting stuck in.
It’s all-go at Plentiful. You might be checking the quality of the fruit and veg one minute, decanting 5 litres of washing-up liquid the next, then stocking up bags of Plentiful chocolate buttons. This is anything but a till job.
There’s always something that needs doing, so we need someone who can prioritise, maintain high standards of presentation and freshness, work accurately and efficiently, and happily be on their feet all day.

Hours and availability

Our core working hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
You must be available to work across at least 6 days of the week. This is not a Monday to Friday role and regular weekend working is an essential part of the position.
We share weekends fairly across the team. Typically, you’ll work a minimum of four weekend days per month, and we aim to give everyone at least one full weekend off each month, often a little more.
This role also includes lone working, so you’ll need to be comfortable and confident running the shop independently.
There are often opportunities for additional shifts to cover holidays, sickness and busy periods, particularly in December. Picking up additional shifts isn’t essential, but we work as a team to cover one another where we can. It’s a big part of how we’re able to accommodate everyone’s holidays and time-off requests fairly.

Essential

• Must be over 18 due to lone working, alcohol sales and insurance requirements
• Retail or sales experience, ideally 2+ years
• Confident written English and basic maths skills, including comfortably working with weights and decimal points
• Good spelling, writing and grammar, as almost all of our signage is handwritten
• Warm, friendly and outgoing, with the confidence to chat naturally with customers and make recommendations
• A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to stay calm when things get busy
• Able to work independently, prioritise what needs doing first and make practical, sensible decisions when working alone
• Great timekeeping and the ability to prioritise and complete jobs efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment
• Comfortable communicating ideas and being honest and open within a small team
• A good sense of humour. We want someone we’ll enjoy working with too!
• Physically able to carry out an active retail role which regularly involves lifting and carrying stock, including sacks weighing up to 25kg, using stairs and being on your feet for most of the day
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain high visual retail standards
• Accurate and able to think calmly and make sensible decisions under pressure
• Confident and speedy computer skills, including searching for and entering product information while customers wait

Preferred

It would be a bonus if you have experience or knowledge in any of the following:

• Environmental, sustainability or ethical issues, and the ability to discuss them in a warm and non-judgemental way when helping customers
• Visual merchandising
• Selling, growing or working with fruit, vegetables and fresh food
• Food hygiene regulations
• Managing business social media pages
• Stock management
• UK driving licence
